Alabamans can now get a license plate for their cars that benefits river conservation. The
Save the Cahaba car tag is a specialty license plate that helps protect the Cahaba River. In the process, it helps provide clean drinking water to the people of Alabama.
The license plate, which shows a Cahaba lily, costs $50, but $41.50 of that goes directly toward
Cahaba River Society conservation programs. You can even get the license plate personalized at no additional charge.
The Cahaba River was named by The Nature Conservancy as one of eight U.S. "hotspots of aquatic biodiversity" that must be saved. Its biggest threats are runoff from urbanization and sediment from construction projects. The Cahaba River Society was founded "to restore and protect the Cahaba River watershed and its rich diversity of life."
