A few years ago, the flash mob movement swept the world, with hundreds of people showing up at predetermined (but secret) locations to dance, play pranks or otherwise have fun.
Well the latest variation on the flash mob is the
cash mob, where people show up unannounced at a local business and spend around $20 each.
One of the most successful cash mobs in recent weeks was at Cleveland's Nature's Bin on March 24, when 120 people showed up and spend more than $7,000 on natural and organic foods.
Regular cash mobs are popping up
all over the country, and around the world. Heck, some even have
Facebook pages. Most have their own Twitter handle, so people can follow them and find out about the latest excursions.
If you're interested, here are the
"cash mob rules" and
information on starting your own cash mob, if there isn't already one near you.
This is a fun way to meet some new friends and to make a difference in your local community by concentrating your spending at a local, independent retailer -- especially if you can find one that's eco-friendly.
