There?s more to Icelandic singer Bjork than her quirky fashion and unique musical style. She?s a noted environmentalist, and now, amid Iceland?s economic collapse, she is promoting a venture capital fund to benefit her homeland.
The Bjork Fund, managed by Reykjavik-based venture capital firm Audur Capital, will reportedly invest in socially and environmentally sustainable companies that tap into Iceland?s unique resources, spectacular nature, vibrant culture and green energy.
?Bjork invests in companies that create value through the uniqueness of Iceland?s nature and culture,? according to Audur, which already contributed 100 million krona (about $816,330) to start the fund.
The musician, who gave a speech highlighting sustainable green energy at the Road to Copenhagen conference in November, has previously used her talent and global fame to spotlight green issues. In October she released a new song ?Nattura? on iTunes, which called on Icelanders to use their natural resources responsibly. The song?s proceeds will go to green businesses in Iceland.
