Can you write a cell phone application to help children eat healthier and lead more active lifestyles? If so then you could be in the running to win $40,000 worth of prizes in the
Apps for Healthy Kids competition.
The competition, part of Michelle Obama's anti-obesity campaign, seeks cell phone applications that will help children to lead healthy lifestyles. Of primary importance is the so-called "tween" age group between 9 and 12.
The top two prizes are $10,000 each, with two additional prizes of $4500 each the most popular entries based on public vote. There are also several prizes for runners up.
The applications can be either games or tools (there are categories for each) and don't have to be aimed directly at kids. The competition acknowledges that parents aren't essential part of the healthy-eating process.
Entries will be judged on a number of criteria, including:
* Potential impact on target audience
* Quality, accuracy, and content of message
* Creativity and originality
* Potential for further development and use
* Potential to engage and motivate target audience
Submissions are due by June 30, so get those programming fingers flying!
