Is Your Website Carbon-Neutral?

John Platt, January 31, 2011

Your personal or business website says a lot about you as a human being or as a company. So shouldn't you make a decision to host your website with a green company?

There are plenty of options available. iPage is completely wind powered and offers a green certificate for your web page so visitors know it is eco-friendly. GreenGeeks buys wind energy credits equivalent to three times its energy expenditures. AISO has been 100% solar since 2002, all produced by its very own solar network that has it operating completely off the energy grid. SolarEnergyHost also generates its own solar power. 1&1 isn't solar- or wind-powered, but they boast that their equipment is energy-efficient.

There are others, and each offers slightly different benefits. It can be a bit maddening choosing a web host that gives you the features you need at the price you want, but here's the good news: so many companies offer carbon-neutral hosting, there's no excuse to choose a company that doesn't!

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to think about moving my own websites to one of these companies.
