Every internet search you do uses a little bit of energy. But there's one site that uses just a little bit less energy, and could save you a few pennies in the process.
It's called
Blackle, and it's powered by Google, so you get the same search results as with that search giant. But Blackle has one major difference from Google -- it displays a black background on your computer screen.
According to Blackle, it requires more energy to display a white web page on your monitor than it does a black screen. Does it really make a difference? Well, according to Heap Media, the company that runs Blackle, users have saved over 2.7 million watts of electricity since their search engine appeared in 2010.
You won't get rich from your energy savings using Blackle, and you won't save the planet in one fell search, but hey, every little bit counts, right?
