More than 175 volunteers will soon patrol the halls of West Virginia University performing a waste audit as part of Sustainability Awareness Week.
The event is being organized by the West Virginia University
Student Government Association and will be held from March 5-9.
A primary area of focus during Sustainability Awareness Week will be the school's dining halls. "When you make food, energy and water go into it, and when it's wasted,
we're not only wasting food, but we're wasting resources," SGA Governor Isabelle Shepherd told
The Daily Athenaeum.
Each volunteer will only need to put in two hours, but Shepherd said the results will be "timeless."
Visit the West Virginia University
Office of Sustainability for more information on their green initiatives. Students can sign up to volunteer for the waste audit
